New resident

When JeanScreen goes to a new person, give it a fresh start so the previous person’s name, contacts and tasks are not left behind. Care homes do this often.

  1. In the portal choose the pencil beside the device name (or Rename on the Details page) and type the new name. The rename dialog reminds you: Moving to a new resident? Rename it here, then open Configure to change the resident’s name, tasks and contacts.
  2. Choose Configure.
  3. Resident tab: change the name, phone number and voice.
  4. Tasks tab: change the tasks and reminder times.
  5. Carers tab: remove the old contacts and add the new ones.
  6. Calendar & Feeds: replace or clear the calendar address.
  7. Press Save, then do a quick check: test the Call Carer button with the new contacts.

Also check each phone’s alert choices (Alerts). Staff phones may need to be added or removed.

If the device is going to a different person or organisation:

  1. In the portal choose the bin (Remove) on the device. It will:
    • unlink it from your account, so you no longer see it;
    • delete its saved settings and screen from the cloud, including tasks and contacts (your encrypted backups of it stay in your account for 30 days, then are deleted);
    • leave the device itself working on its own.
  2. On the device, do a new-owner reset: hold buttons 1 and 8 for 30 seconds, three beeps, then let go. See Hidden controls.
  3. The next owner adds the device with the device ID and the new pairing code (The carer portal). They start with blank settings and are never offered your backup.

If you only Remove it from the portal, someone holding the device can still add it again with the pairing code shown on it. A new-owner reset changes that code.

  • One account can hold several devices. Name them clearly (“Room 12: Margaret”).
  • Keep a short checklist for each move: rename, clear contacts, new tasks, test Call Carer, new voice if needed.
  • A care home that wants staff on separate accounts should add each device to the account that will look after it.
  • Talk to the resident (and their family) about what the screen does before it is installed. It is their room.
  • If you run a home or a service and want to talk, use the email link at the bottom of this page.
