Call Carer

  1. The resident holds the red button for about 1.5 seconds.
  2. The device checks two things first:
    • At least one Call Carer contact is saved. If not, the screen says “Call Carer is not set up” and nothing is sent.
    • It is connected to Wi-Fi. If not, the screen says “Call Carer is not connected” and nothing is sent. (The light returns to steady.)
  3. If both are fine: the light flashes (three quick flashes, a pause, repeat) and a tone plays.
  4. The screen says “Calling your carer…” and lists who the message has been sent to.

Illustration. The exact wording on the real screen may differ.
  1. Your phone gets a Call Carer push alert straight away, if you turned alerts on.
  2. Each contact set to receive a text gets one: “JeanScreen: Margret pressed Call Carer and would like a call. Reply 1 to let her know you got this.”, with any tasks still to do. Each contact set to receive a call is phoned and hears a short message asking them to call back. It is read in the language chosen for that contact.
  3. A contact lets the resident know they got the message by pressing 1 on the call, replying 1 to the text (within five minutes), or with I’ve got the message in the setup screens.
  4. When someone replies, the screen shows their name, “has your message. They will call you soon.”, and the light goes back to steady.
  5. If nobody has replied after a minute, the screen says “No answer yet” for a few seconds, then the everyday screen comes back. The light keeps flashing until someone replies, so anyone nearby can see the button was pressed.
  1. Add contacts in the Carers tab and switch on Call Carer button: voice call and/or SMS for each. See Contacts and voices.
  2. Make sure the home Wi-Fi works.
  3. Turn on Call Carer alerts on your own phone. See The carer portal.
  1. Tell the contacts: “I am testing the JeanScreen Call Carer button at 3 p.m. today.”
  2. Hold the button for 2 seconds.
  3. Check each contact’s phone: call and text. Check your own push alert.
  4. Press 1 on one call and check the light stops flashing.

Test again after you change contacts, move the device, or change the Wi-Fi.

  • It does not call 911 or any emergency number.
  • It does not work without Wi-Fi.
  • It does not share a location.
  • It does not detect falls.
  • It has no microphone, so there is no two-way talking.
  • Calling and texting need the Cloud plan.
