Hidden controls
Two special combinations use the task buttons. They are deliberately hard to do by accident: you have to hold two buttons at the same time. Short taps on either button still tick or un-tick tasks as normal.
Show the connection details (hold 7 + 8 for 3 seconds)
Section titled “Show the connection details (hold 7 + 8 for 3 seconds)”Hold button 7 and button 8 together for about 3 seconds. You hear a chime and the screen shows, for 30 seconds:
- the device’s Wi-Fi name and password,
- the device ID,
- the pairing code (8 digits),
- the device’s address on your home network, if it is connected (and its
jeanscreen-xxxx.localname).
Press any button to close it early. It never ticks a task. Use it when you need to:
- add the device to the carer portal (device ID + pairing code),
- join the device’s Wi-Fi and open its setup page (
http://192.168.4.1).
Reset the settings (hold 1 + 8)
Section titled “Reset the settings (hold 1 + 8)”Hold button 1 and button 8 together and keep holding. Listen for the beeps:
| You have held for | You hear | If you let go now |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10 seconds | Nothing | Nothing happens. |
| 10 seconds | One beep | Nothing happens (it was cancelled). Keep holding to go on. |
| 15 seconds | Two beeps | Settings reset (below). |
| 30 seconds | Three beeps | New-owner reset (below). |
Letting go at any point before the two beeps cancels everything. The wipe happens when you let go after the beeps, then the device restarts.
Settings reset (hold 1 + 8 for 15 seconds)
Section titled “Settings reset (hold 1 + 8 for 15 seconds)”Use this if you have lost the setup-page password or want to start setup again.
- Erased: the settings on the device: tasks, contacts, home Wi-Fi, calendar address, the setup-page password, and so on.
- Made new: the device’s own Wi-Fi password and the six-digit setup code. The welcome screens come back so you can set it up again.
- Kept: the device’s identity and its pairing code.
- Removed from your account: once the device is back online it is taken off every carer portal account, and the live copy of its settings in the cloud is deleted. To use it with your account again, add it with the same pairing code. With the Cloud plan, the portal then asks “Restore settings from your backup?”. Nothing comes back unless you tap Restore.
New-owner reset (hold 1 + 8 for 30 seconds)
Section titled “New-owner reset (hold 1 + 8 for 30 seconds)”Use this when the device is changing hands for good: given to someone else, or a care home moving it to a different account.
- Does everything the settings reset does, and makes a new pairing code.
- A different account can now add the device with that new code. The old owner gets an alert. The new owner starts with blank settings and is never offered the old owner’s backup.
- The old owner’s backup (Cloud plan) stays in their account for 30 days, so they can restore it to a replacement, and is then deleted.
- A device that is simply in someone else’s hands cannot be taken over by reading the code off its screen. Both the ID and the code are needed, and the code changes only by this reset on the device itself.
You can also do the same settings reset from the setup page (Device tab, Factory reset all settings), but not the new-owner reset.
