Carer portal. The website and phone app where carers add devices, change settings from anywhere and get alerts.

Cloud plan. The plan that includes the portal, alerts, Call Carer calls and texts, and more. See Plans.

Comfort zone. The temperature and humidity range you consider fine. The device warns if the room goes outside it.

Daily reset. The time each day (starts at 07:00) when ticks are cleared and the daily report is sent.

Device ID. The 12-character code that names one JeanScreen. On a label on the back, and on the screen when you hold buttons 7 + 8.

Dosette box. A weekly pill organiser. JeanScreen can remind you to refill it.

E-paper (e-ink). A screen that looks like printed paper, needs no backlight, and uses power only when the picture changes.

Firmware. The program that runs inside the device. It updates itself over Wi-Fi.

Ghosting. A faint image of old text left on an e-paper screen. It clears at the next full refresh.

Hotspot. The device’s own small Wi-Fi network (JeanScreen-XXXX), used for setup and local changes.

iCal. A calendar sharing format. The address ends in .ics.

Local-only plan. The plan with no subscription, where you change things by joining the device’s own Wi-Fi.

New-owner reset. Hold buttons 1 + 8 for 30 seconds. Wipes the settings and makes a new pairing code so a different account can take the device.

Paddle. The big button beside each task. There are eight, plus the red Call Carer button.

Pairing code. The 8-digit number shown only on the device (hold 7 + 8). Needed with the device ID to add it to an account.

Push alert. A notification on a phone that appears at once.

Resident. The person who lives with the JeanScreen.

RSS / Atom. A format that news sites use to publish headlines.

Setup code. The six-digit code on the first-start screen 3, used for first sign-in. You then choose your own password.

Settings reset. Hold buttons 1 + 8 for 15 seconds. Wipes the device’s settings and takes it off the carer portal account; the same pairing code adds it back.

Settings backup. A copy of the settings: a password-locked file from the device’s own page, or (Cloud plan) automatic encrypted backups, last 5 versions. Never restored without your say-so.

Task. One thing to do each day, such as “Morning pills”. There are up to eight.

Wellbeing check. A noon-time (by default) check: if no task has been ticked, contacts are told.
